What Happens When You Do Something No Matter What
How to find your courage, say yes and be great
“But no one except Lucy knew that as it circled the mast it had whispered to her, “Courage, dear heart,” and the voice, she felt sure, was Aslan’s, and with the voice a delicious smell breathed in her face.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Are you teetering on the brink? Ready to take action, but just not sure if you should?
This is what you need to know:
When you dedicate yourself to something and do it regardless of the outcome, you’ll become greater than your current limited self.
Even if the chance of success is slim, you’ll grow as you give yourselves to an idea outside yourself.
Magic happens when you are willing to step out into the unknown. To dedicate yourself to something beyond your current limitations and make the statement, I am greater than my fear.
Declare, yes, I am going to do this, no matter what, and you will develop as a person in more ways than you can currently imagine.
“When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” — Elon Musk
You’ll grow when you:
Write — and publish — what is in your heart without knowing whether or not there will be a reader. Releasing your words to the world will feel like pure freedom.
Develop a product you know will add value to people’s lives, even though you don’t know if you’ll get funding. Acting on your vision is the essence of generosity.
Ask him or her the question, even if you’re not sure they’ll say yes. If you know it’s yes for you, it’s time.
Create a work of art, even though you don’t know if a gallery will be interested or if anyone will want to buy it. Honour this desire and you’ll be in alignment with your true self.
Take a journey to somewhere you’ve never been, even if you don’t know what you’ll find. You’ll come back a different person.
Allow yourself to learn about a subject you are curious about, even if you don’t know how it will apply in the job market. Trust me — you’ll start chipping away at that big, dark area called ‘Things you don’t know you don’t know’ and you will reap rewards you can’t envision from your current level of knowledge.
“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
But, you may say, how can I afford to do these things? I must pay the bills. I only want to do something if I know the outcome. I only want to invest my time, energy, and money if it’s a sure-fire bet.
When we try to grip the desired outcome, our desires may slip away from our grasp. Rewards are like wild animals. We mustn’t stare them in the face, or they will run away.
Instead, focus on your interests, passions, and curiosity, and the rewards will come as a byproduct.
It takes a leap of faith. It can be terrifying.
But courage will be like a fire and anvil for your soul, annealing and melding you into more perfect form.
“There is freedom waiting for you,
On the breezes of the sky,
And you ask “What if I fall?”
Oh but my darling,
What if you fly?”
― Erin Hanson
Give yourself to something you believe in — not for the money, not for the props— but for its own sake.
Yes, you might fail. But there will be glory in your failure. You’ll have proven yourself a warrior no matter the outcome.
Take a leap and great things will happen in your life, as certainly as your next breath.
I wish you everything. Thank you for reading.
